everyone knows that people can buy parts and build a desktop pc..., but can you buy parts to build a laptop, granted that it would be expencive as hell to build something with an 300gig hd or 3.5Ghz processor in it, but how would someone go about building a laptop, are there barbone kits(I have never seen one)...

If the laptop is capable of being upgraded (that is, not everything is encased and embedded) you can buy other parts. Laptops really aren't customizable. That's why the market for high end custom jobs like Alienware and FalconPC are so popular.

Actually, there is at least one barebone laptop on the market. I read a review a few months back. But I can't remember who made it...

Can you provide a link to the barebones laptops?
It's possible to build one from the ground up, but the motherboard would be somewhat of a bottleneck, as it restricts almost all the other parts you can use.
