Buying Computer, Please Help

Hey guys I am going to buy a computer maybe from Dell right now because I get a tiny employee discount from them at the moment and NEED a newer computer. Anyways.. I need some help. My dad just bought a computer for like $400-$500 and it has Pentium 4 CPU 3.06GHz BUT computers I look at online that are like $900 have processors that are only like Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor E4400 (2MB L2 cache,2.0GHz,800FSB) my OLD OLD cpu is 1.2ghz and CPU's that are 1.8 or 2ghz do not seem like a major difference after all these years later.

I just want to get an awsome computer that will play all the new games well, runs really fast with many things open at once ect. with only $700 - $800 to spend. I don't need a monitor or speakers, but of course I need a good gfx card and sound card that will work with my new awsome speakers but don't know much about either cards anymore.

I'm sure some of you guys know the secrets to getting an awsome deal. Can you guys PLEASE help me get through this process so I can find a nice computer. Everyones feedback will be MUCH appreciated. ok... well for 700-800.. ur not gonna get what we get if u buy from dell.. and don't expect that to do good in games... as for the clock speed difference, thats intel's new archetecutre... the core... it uses low clock speeds.. but high speed

It's a little more complicated than that. I'd tell you to buy your own individual parts and build something from scratch, but are you up to it?

Thing is, if you want to play games decently, recent and upcoming, get a computer that has a high-end DX9 card, like a 7900GT or X1950XT, or even a 7900GS or X1950PRO which'll be a lot cheaper, you'll be able to run stuff like Bioshock and Crysis.

Don't go to Dell because they'll try and push the mid-range DX10 cards which blow balls. I'd also recommend getting a Core 2 Duo setup. Best thing for you, if you want to buy the computer assembled (pre-built) is to go to Newegg or another computer parts online retailer and use the "build a computer feature" and customize until you reach your price-point, it's simple.

SOOOO much better than what dell would have given you. Btw 500 bucks for a pentium 4 is pretty steep as i got one 2 years ago for 700 with a monitor and a close clock speed to that one. And that was my pos dell.

Cool, I think I'll be happy with what I got It's much better then my current AMD 1.2Ghz and 512SDRam... pplus much better gfx card

Yeah, the 7900GS and X1950PRO/GT are the definite choices for high-performance budget cards that will easily outdo the mid-range DX10 cards. You'll be really happy with it. Get Bioshock and some other modern games to really take advantage of your system. Your system will also be good for Crysis as well.

yeah dude you did a good job for 700 bones that aint bad at all. you can overclock cyberpower's pcs right?
if you can find one cheap...slap another 7900gs in there booya SLI overclock the crap out of them and you have a stock 8800gts w/o dx10 of course lol.
