Default My soon to be BEAST

Hello Tech Forums, I am new to these forums but I was hoping that I could recieve some help from the great minds on these forums. So here it is, currently my computer is a piece of sh!t and I wanted a new one, well actually I NEED one. The current specs are:
Code:
AMD Athlon(tm) 1.00 GHz Processor
384 MB of ram
Windows XP home
nVidia vanta/vanta LT
some really crappy motherboard
horrible video card
you get the idea
So after you've finished up your laugh at my computer, read below.

what I was looking for was something to play games like counter strike source, rappelz, world of warcraft, half life 2 etc etc. and also have the power to use photoshop or sony vegas since I do edit photos and make images and stuff. I dont really want to spend a fortune on my computer, and I've learned that buying parts and building your own computer is cheaper but a bit more dangerous (which is why im asking for help here) I'm not too sure what I want but this is what I know I want so far

Code:
processor:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
motherboard:
not sure yet, need help with this.
ram (memory):
4gb of ram, dont know who im buying it from etc but thats how much I want.
perhaps this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184
sound card:
no idea , need help with this too
video card:
I was thinking of the nVideo GeForce 8800 but idk, I just want something that is really good, but not super expensive
Operating System:
dont need one. already have a (legal) one on this computer and since i most likely wont be using this computer anymore i'll just take the OS from this computer.
network port (internet thing):
dont really care as long as its fast :D
processor cooling:
i have no idea
computer case:
no idea at all
so guys if you could help me out I would be really appreciative, also if you could give me links to the products you suggest, that would be awsome! (you dont have to)

EDIT:::::

This is what I have found so far.

don't get the e6850, because the Core 2 Quad q6600 can be had at the same price (2 more cores [in some cases the q6600 is actually cheaper]) or if your bent on having a dual-core the new e8400 is a great buy, usually goes to 4.0ghz + on air cooling, as for a motherboard I recommend the p35-ds3r or the Abit Ip35-pro or the p35-neo2

as for your RAM, 4gb is a bit overkill unless you do CAD or something, but people lately have ben saying its good to have that much on Vista (but you need a 64bit OS to read more than 3.3GB, get this if you want 4gb but keep in mind you do need a 64bit OS to read all 4gb)
Newegg.com - OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Integrated Sound cards are pretty decent nowadays, but if you want one take a look at the X-Fi ExtremeGamer or ExtremeMusic

for the Video Card I recommend an 8800gt (its got great bang for the buck, can match an 8800gtx sometimes and its around $300)

as for the Network Port, the Mobo's I recommended all have RJ-45 Ports

as for Cases its personal Preference

Well if you plan on going SLI or crossfire then you have to get a 680i or 780i for the sli and get a x38 if you want crossfire other then that i completly agree with vernong.

I'd avoid SLI Chipsets honestly, they suck, they claim to be engineered for overclocking but they suck, just suck, they have this Burn in problem that people are complaining about, plus SLI isn't as efficient as Crossfire anyways, if you consider dual-card setup go with 2 HD3870's instead of 2 8800gt's

What is your budget? you can get an E8400 Wolfdale 45nm C2D 3.0Ghz now that will smoke a E6850 and Q6600 in games, and it's cheaper than both

Good motherboard for single gpu...

Don't get a GTS 640... that's based on the g80 core, get a g92 8800GT

Good deal on memory

Case, get an antec 900 from newegg, $80 after rebate

PSU, something like a Corsair 650TX

Asus 20x DVD-RW lightscribe

Oh, CPU cooler, Tuniq Tower or Thermalright Ultra eXtreme

GPU = Graphics Card (graphics Processing unit)

g80 is the older version of the 8800gts, the g92 version he suggested is better, its more powerful, runs cooler and its cheaper (convincing enough?)

also the Corsair 520hx is enough power for your system
