what makes that ram better than the one selected?

It actually works with the MA790X-UD4P.
If you want DDR3, you'd need to go with the MA790XT-UD4P

DDR3 gives about a 4% performance advantage over DDR2.
ATM, both boards and RAM are more expensive than DDR2 boards and RAM. Until both come down to about the same price, it's not really worth it.

I'd stick with it. It's a really good board. Not just in terms of overclocking; it's just a very solid board in general with lots of features.

Video cards is a bit of a grey area right now. ATI is going to release their new graphics cards within about a month, which will be DirectX 11 compatible and have better performance. Nvidia's new cards will come out some time afterwards.
