All,
Some of you may remember the post I put up a few weeks ago regarding a friend torn between an IBuyPower computer and a homebuilt one... Well I finally got him to go home built and he gave me a $2500 budget (I'm not charging him for labor) and here's what I came up with. I'll complete the build sometime next week (@10 Sep) and will post benchmark results shortly thereafter. Also, the single HD (vs RAID) was his idea as well as the single DVD-ROM drive (he does all his CD/DVD burning on a laptop). No plans to OC as of now. He's gonna use the onboard sound as he only has 5:1 speakers anyway. I can't wait to post the results and pics!!!

Wow, I got 1 million recomendations

#1: DVD-RW drive is an extra 10$, go for it.

#2: At least get a cheap sound card, takes a load off ypur CPU.

#3: Get a seagate or western digital drive, never maxtor, they are unreliable and fail.

#4: Check out a different power supply, OCZ, Enermax, PCP&C, Forton or Antec. They may not be as flashy, but their better quality.

#5: BFG are good, but eVGA are usually cheaper and better. However BFG's warranty can easily be taken advantage of which gives it a +.

#6: Asus boards for AMD builds are popular, but crap just like dell. I recomend checking out the DFI Lanparty SLI-DR

#7: Floppy drives are uncool and uneeded for most people. It's good to have a few laying around, but it's not nesscary to have one.

LOL, I think he already bought it. But no worries, I think your recomendations are valid, but he will be fine. That system will rip pretty damn well.

Why two FDD cables?

Idiotic is right... I have the parts at the house already. I know, I know, everybody hates ASUS mobos areound here but I'm kina partial to them. If it does fail/suck/whatever I will give out free "Toldja so's" to everyone that ever said steer clear of ASUS. As for your other suggestions, I agree with the burner and the sound card (easy fixes later), but I really let this guy choose his own parts. As for the floppy well, for $8.50 and since it sites behind the case face, it's always nice to have. Lastly I thought Maxtor made good quality stuff? Am I wrong here? Thanks again all!!

Tajahem - One cable is for the single DVD-ROM drive and the other is for the floppy drive.

Also,
DJ-CHRIS - What do you mean by poor motherboard will get thrown?

Thanks again!

It wont do something right, and you shall feel like throwing it out of window.

I was partial to Asus before, didnt do much research, got an A8V.

I agree completely with DJ-CHRIS. He actually saved me from a bunch of typing...

If you're going to get a floppy drive get a "Mitsumi - Floppy/Media Card reader" Nice to have!!!

Also why do you need a 18" & 10" floppy cable? In most cases 10" is plenty long enough....

I was under the impression that you needed an IDE cable to run an IDE DVD-ROM Drive. It's what mine uses.

I suppose it doesn't really matter though since your mobo will come with several IDE cables if I'm right.
