Default Building New System, Could Use some advice

Motherboard: (ASUS M2V Socket AM2)

Ram: (G-Skill 2GB DDR2 800)

CPU: (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ or 4400+)
will there be a significant difference? or is there a better option?

temporary gfx card until dx10 gets cheap: (eVGA 7600GT)

is there a better option here to?

Case: (Spire SilverFin III)

but I have decided to replace the motherboard and processor with these:

Motherboard: (GIGABYTE)

CPU: (C2D E6300 Conroe)

any thoughts?

I was going to comment on your cpu+motherboard choice until I saw that you changed those for two excellent alternatives. That videocard is also good thinking, in my opinion.

I would say change the power supply since Thermaltake only has good high-end psu's... but the reviews on Newegg are excellent so I don't think you could go wrong here.

I should mention that I will most likely be buying an eVGA 6800GS and OCZ Powerstream 520w from a friend

I'm not sure if I want to go with the 6800gs or 76... after all, it will only be a temp card until I can afford dx10

this poses a new question

should I get a 6800gs ~$70 or a 7600gt for ~$100

I am a gamer(if not obvious), but as of now, I only want something better than my 6600gt agp, so will $30 be worth the extra performance?

i'd get the 7600gt. costs a little more. better card. and it'd probably sell better if you wanted to get rid of it.
