I'm building a $600-$700 gaming pc I have already added up some sets of parts tell me what you think. Does it really make a difference what motherboard I get- for example for an AMD64x2 choice...

Is the top one a whole lot different or so important? Or should I go for a cheap MB?

Here are the two proccesors I am debating over, is one better than the other they are both about $300

Sorry for the long message and thanks in advance for the help.

the amd ones are
$695.00 with rebates

and the intel ones are
$820 with rebates

ya but with the intel you don't have all the parts.

no ram, HD, and other parts...

sorry about that use the same ram and hd on both. I didn't include cd drives and floppys I already have some of those.

I think that Core 2 Duo is better then the 4800+ ...

1. C2D's OC like monsters !
2. I am 99.9 percent sure the E6300 is better then the AMD you chose (might want some opinions from other people)

BTW: your M-Board is VIA and my cousin says that VIA are crap when when it comes to chipsets (he works as a Linux Hardware Engineer for Jungo).

About the certain model of ram I selected, it is DDR2-667, but it has Micron D9 IC's so it'll easily OC to DDR2-800 and up,
also check AMS selection of cases if you happen to have white optical drives, the case I selected comes in other colors I believe.

Forgot a hdd, here ya go
Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $55.99

Attention: Forgot that Gigabyte boards have some issues with memory that use Micron D9 IC's, do not use the ones I selected.

thanks for the replies. So is every one agreeing then that the core 2 duo is better than the amdx2? Thanks for the advice on the via motherboard btw.

And thanks for that part list drizo, so you said don't get that ram should I get some corsair ram then or just some normal cheap ram?
Also should I get higher than an E6300? or is it pretty fast?
