Default Building a new gaming rig..$1500 cap

This will be my first ever build from scratch...but i have rebuilt computers before so it shouldn't be much different.

Anywho, here are the specs. I would like to know if i should run with what i have or make modifications to save money and sacrifice as little performance as possible. (i do know about sandybridge is coming out in jan and may end up swapping, or just hoping for a price drop in some components)

HDD- Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
GPU- GTX 465
RAM- G.skill 6GB DDR3 PC1600
CPU- i7 950
CPU Cooler- Tuniq CR-T120-EX-SV
Optical Drive- LG Blue-Ray player/DVD-RW
MOBO- ASUS Sabertooth X58
Power Supply- KINGWIN LZG-850 Gold

Case- Cooler Master HAF 932

So far i am at $1450. I do not need cutting edge anything, i am looking for longevity and bang for my buck. I have been thing about going AMD. Please, give all the advice you can, and is it okay to use ati with intel and geforce with amd without too much of a compatibility impact?

There is no compatibility impact with mixing ATI with Intel or Nvidia with AMD. Graphics cards are completely interchangeable as long as you uninstall the drivers from one before installing the drivers of the other.

Looks good.

Here's a killer combo you might be interested in if you stay with Intel. it has a different case and you will still need the optical drive and cooler:

* Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor (Model:BX80601950)
* ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Motherboard
* G.SKILL PI Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (Model:F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI)
* G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (Model:FM-25S2S-120GBSR)
* COOLER MASTER Storm Sniper Black Steel, ABS Plastic, Mesh bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (Model:SGC-6000-KXN1-GP)
* EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) SuperClocked 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card (Model:012-P3-1472-AR)
* COOLER MASTER Silent Pro 1000W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V v2.92 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply (Model:RSA00-AMBAJ3-US)
* Gift: G.SKILL dog tag
* Gift: G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series T-shirt (Color: Black, Size: XL)

Combo Discount: -$114.94
Combo Price: $1,359.97
$1,329.97 after $30.00 Mail-In Rebate(s)

If you want to go with AMD, be sure to go with a Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition.

Nvidia is going to release GTX 570 very soon. Just wait 1 or 2 day and then you will see them available in newegg.

Current reviews shows that GTX 570 performs on par with GTX 480 but it consume less power and its going to be cheaper.

EDIT: Actually GTX 570 is already out
