Which CPU? AMD X2 3800+ or Opteron 165 Dual Core
Which video card? NVIDIA Geforce 7300GS
How much memory? 1GIG Value Select
Which HDTV tuner? Not really sure.. I've used Hauppauge PVR 350
What quality of a sound card? X-FI extreme music

I'm using ATI's HDTV Tuner right now on my comp, but pretty disappointed. My monitor is a sick 19", almost $2,000, but even on this monitor, the HD does NOT look HD. Yes, it looks MUCH better than traditional TV Tuners, but still not the HD I get on the normal TV. Is that going to be the same on an HDTV or am I better just to run the cable box directly to the HDTV, and use the HTPC for movies, internet, music, and games?

And about the case, I am definately going with something that lies flat like the old school cases, and it has to have an LCD and open DVD drive, something like this would be perfect...

the vid card is not just for output. it also has to do work. i would recommend something better than the 7300gs. maybe the 7600gs.. since its also silent. features of the 7*** series, with the performance of the 6600gt.
