Default Re: Building First Computer; Advice Needed.

After doing some more research / asking at forums today I am going to go with this build. I am not adding the package of Windows Vista builders edition, as I will wait for Windows 7 I think would be best.

Here it is

The Total Comes to $1,183.90 and after mail in rebates is $1093.90 which is slightly more than I originally wanted, but I think is a good buy for what I seem to be getting. I will probably add a TV Tuner Card in the future.

I hope to run Linux on this system until Windows 7 Comes out.

Thank you all for your help.

The list isn't public.

The Windows 7 RC will be available to the public on the 5th so you may want to grab a copy of it to run until the retail version of 7 is available.

You will need this lga1366 mounting bracket to go with Sunbeam Core Contact.

Newegg.com - Sunbeam CR-LGA1366 LGA 1366 Core I7 Retention Bracket - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

Aside from that it looks good.

You'll need this for the core contact: Newegg.com - Sunbeam CR-LGA1366 LGA 1366 Core I7 Retention Bracket - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

Also, get this GPU. Newegg.com - HIS Hightech H477F512P Radeon HD 4770 512MB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

10 more bucks, better/newer GPU.

EDIT: Ah, PJ. Lucky my internet conked out. :[ Lol.

Ok, cool thank you both. I added the Mount and the newer GPU to the build. Now all thats left is to actually build it!

Oh, one more question. Do you think I should go with a case with more front ports? My Board can have up to 8 USB connectors, but my case only has one on the front port. I am not really sure how this works, because I haven't ever put a PC together before.

Edit: Also at a different board someone suggested a CUDA-enabled videocard for faster video encoding. I looked up the PNY VCQ295NVS-X16-PB Quadro4 NVS295 256MB 64-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Low Profile Ready Workstation Video Card for about $50 more, do you guys think that it would be worth it to do that? I don't really understand why and what CUDA does, but that was his suggestion.

The case should be fine. That just means the case has 1 usb port on the front of it in addition to the 8 usb ports located on the motherboard. When it's all put together the ports on the motherboard will line up with openings on the back of the case.

ATI cards like the HD 4770 can also do video encoding using Stream, which is their competitor to CUDA. In fact ATI even offers Avio Video converter, which uses Stream, for free.

You can get a bluetooth USB dongle.

This one looks pretty good:
Newegg.com - D-Link DBT-120 USB 2.0 Wireless USB Bluetooth Adapter - Network - Bluetooth

That PSU is way overkill. Get this one and you will be saving a lot of money and still be able to power your system fine

Newegg.com - PC Power & Cooling Silencer PPCS420X 420W ATX12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies
