hello all, I'm new here.. and as my first topic I would like to get some of your oppinions on things..

If you were to build a computer on a budget of I have $1300 AUD to spend which is $994.133 USD or 777.731 EUR.. and you already had afue parts (monitor.. optical devices).. what would you get?

I personally am a big cheap-o.. if I can get something cheap and either oc it to that of a more expensive card I would. The comp COULD be overclocked (depending on what parts I get and what I read on here about overclocking them ;) ). Its a major gaming comp.. alltho high end graphics is not required (I'm still happy playing in 800x600 no AA) and I would like it to last me.. as in, I will be upgrading little bits over time.

For the CPU what would you get?
AMD? Socket 939 or AM2?
Intel? Conroe? pentium 4? Pentium d 805?

What motherboard would you choose? DDR or DDR2? note: must have onboard network 10/100, usb. ide, sata, fdd.

What ram would you choose?
Value? Overclockable?

What video card would you choose?
Ati? Nvidia? which is the best for value?

What hard drive would you get?
Sata? Ide? I personally would prefer sata.. I hate cables

What psu would you get?
400w? 500w? 800w?

What case would you get?

Anything else you'd like to add?

Please let it be known, that I will be using these answers as a guide on the pc I will be building.. The more answers the better, even brands to stay away from would be helpfull. As I live in australia, parts may vary in price down here.. So please if you can cross refrence them with something like www.shopbot.com.au (you newegg lovers.)

Thanks in advanced, love the forum :D

Conroe all the way if you have the $$...

All from Newegg, if you search you can find it a little cheaper.

Apevia 420watt case: $59.99
WD 250gig SATA: $67.99 after rebate
EVGA 7900GT KO: $289
G.Skill 2x1gb pc5400 RAM: $156.99
ASRock ConRoeXFire-eSATA2: $82.99
Conroe E6300 Retail Box: $218.99
---------------
TOTAL: $856.94 US + Shipping

That still leaves you with a little dough in your pocket too. Either way, you can build a conroe for CHEAP, and it's DEFINITELY worth it if you are building a totally new system.
