in three years I highly doubt those parts you will upgrade will be beasty, you know how fast technology advances,

in my opinion, I would go with the amd, and if you plan on upgrding in three years you will probably throw out the old one and build a new one and call it a upgrade

OK how about this. I get a better motherboard which will support the future quad core processors. Check out my new idea for a build. Comes to around 740$ CAD all together before shipping. In 3 years I could pop a conroe in chep then 3 years after that pop in a quad core. Is this a good build? Worth the price tag?

Trust me ..it's a socket 478...I have a 5150 :)

Im aware and have moved on. Check out my new build :) Comments welcome. I know the video card is somewhat weak but I dont need anything fancy. I can upgrade that if I need to when i pop in a conroe or a quad core.

ram/case/hd is from what you chose.. which are prtty good (although i'm not sure about the psu w/ your case)

i didnt pick out a video card cuz i didn't feel good quoting that 7300 :p

oh ya.. w/e parts you're considering buying and are on a weekly special, just add to your shopping card, and even if hte sale is over, you'll still be able to get that price.. they give you like a week extra...

Hey guys. Great suggestions so far. I know exactly what I would do if I had the cash but fact is I really should just be getting a value system. Here is what I came up with for under 500$. Cool thing is it supports DDR2 (only 667 but whatever good enough) SATA 2 and believe it or not..a future conroe upgrade! Hopefully this is compatible...let me know.

Is this video card really that bad? |I dont plan on hard core gaming ...just a little from time to time. I do however plan on setting up dual screens at some point if possible?????

CASE and PSU

Whatever ...something under 70$ havent decided yet.

TOTAL = 437.96

Seems like a good bang for my buck and really all I probably need. Seems like it has good upgradability as well to conroe and 2 gigs of ddr2 667 ram. Opinions please before I pull the trigger.

Ok if you go amd change the mobo to a Dfi Am2 Infinity if you can find it. The cpu seems fine since you dont seem to have a whole lot of money. If your planning on gaming with that 7300le good luck. The 7300 is slow as it is (supposivly slower than a 6600) and the le means it's a even weaker/cheaper version. I will have more input after lunch....
