A friend of mine does civil engineering work and uses Civil 3D, infraworks and qGIS in addition to the usual office stuff. His office just gave him the go ahead to spend some money on a work PC and I don't really know enough to advise. Can I ask for feedback on his behalf? This is the link to what he is looking at:

https://orbitalcomputers.com/configured.php?id=39&conf_id=12292

i7 5820k 3.3 GHz
MSI X99
Corsair 750W 80 Plus Gold PSU
H80i cooler
16 GB Crucial Ballistix DDR$ 2400 MHz ram
Nvidia Quadro K2200 $GB GDDR5
Intel 750 400GB NVME SSD

Good, bad, overpriced...? Thanks for any help.

Absolutely getting raped because they put a crappy Quadro card in there and tossed an over the top Intel 750 in there too.

He would do better with a GTX 980 which almost costs the same as the K2200 but has more performance than a Quadro M5000 which shares the same damn chip. In case you're not up and up on the Quadro side of things I'll list it out.

K2000, K2200, K4000, K5000, K4200, K5200, M4000, M5000, M6000 in about that order depending on task at hand (Single Precision). M5000 = 3000 dollar card with GM204 chip. K2200 = 430 dollar card based on Kepler. Whereas GTX 980 = GM204 for 450 bucks.
So there's that. It seems qGIS isn't a GPU demanding setup either and doesn't specifically utilize CUDA from what I can tell so the 980 would be perfect there too.

Next I'd recommend the 6700k over the 5820k and bumping the RAM to 32GB instead. Then drop that retarded 750 down to a 500GB 850 EVO. Can be M.2 or SATA doesn't matter. ****, even my PCI-E Predator would be fine and it comes in 480GB flavor for about half the cost of the 750.

I know the link is to a prebuilt, but finding different specs outlined will come at a much less cost and more performance.
