i7 builds are expensive. Either go Core 2 Duo and overclock the **** out of it, or go Phenom II X4 and overclock the **** out of it.

I don't plan to overclock anytime soon so should I stick with DDR2 or DDR3?

Overclocking is very simple and extremely safe now. My outdated 3 year old E6300 clocked at 3.6ghz which is worth around 50 bucks now will run with a phenom such as the 940 if you get it in games. Don't let that happen lol

What's a good DDR2 1066 Ram that's good for overclocking and cheap?

Even though standard memory is 1066, you can use 800?

Standard pretty much means the highest speed it can handle (pretty much). It can use 800. If you feel the need for higher speed, OC them. But you should be fine.

Good quality RAM can overclock as well and yes DDR2-800 will work just fine. G.skill is an excellent company.
