ok in the AMD and Intel builds, these components are the same:

Antec 900
Zalman CNPS 9500 LED
Asus 7900 GS
OCZ Gold 1 GB RAM DDR 800
WD Caviar 80 Gig
Viewsonic CRT e-90 (don't nag me on that)
DVD-RW Drive 18X

AMD build: (This product is currently priced at $1014.72)
Above components
AMD Athlon64 X2 EE 3800+
Seasonic S12-430 PSU (430 Watts)
Asus M2N4-SLI (based on Nvidia Nforce 4 Chipset)

Intel build: (This product is currently priced at $1085.90)
Above components
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300
Rosewill RP-550 (550 Watts)
Asus P5B-VM

which is the better buy?

The E4300 is the better buy but the P5B Vanilla isn't the best overclocker but still would work...building yourself is still much better for the money though.

Still out of those the E4300 wins.

Ok which would be the best then:

intel dg965yck
Intel BOXDG965MSCK
microstar g965M-fi

seriously? are there any good oc'ing mobos that are under 100$ on newegg

is abit a9- pro any good?
