Default Is it better to have...

a 7800GT with a 4400+ dual core Toledo then a 7800GTX w/ a 4000+ San Diego single core? I think it is a smart decision to go with the dual core and the GT.

single with GTX $460 + $330 = $790
dual with GT $300 + $500 = $800

they are pretty much equal in cost.

And as SLI improves and cards get cheaper I might add another GT sometime next year.

Personally I'd get a x2 3800 dual core cuz its almost 200$ less. Id never get a gtx over a gt unless u care about a 5-10 fps increase.

The reason why I want a dual core is that new games will utilize dual cores and the extra multi-tasking (such as running anti-spyware and downloading stuff while playing a game) is always a great plus even if gaming is my top priority.

Well seeing as how the 3800+ only has 2x 512kb cache and the toledo cores are 2x 1MB cache as well as higher clock speeds and it also comes with Nero 7 Ultra Edition free which costs 120 bucks at newegg I am willing to dish the extra money out.

Dual core and 7800GT.... Games will become multithreaded soon and it will kill the other setup.

Since your not "JUST INTERESTED IN GAMING" i'd recommend X2 4400+ and the 7800GT. Later when games like UT2007 come out you can pick up another 7800GT & SLI board if you don't already have one and you'll be good to go.

Multicore CPU's are the future.
