doing this "the gskill ram is good for overclocking. the X2 4200+ is a peculiar choice.. maybe try to up that to a 4400+ and downgrade the ram to pc3200 with tighter timings.. this way no need to overclock."

Jumps the price a bit too high...

Any other options that are a bit cheaper?

In case you are interested, the price has dropped on system I mentioned earlier.

He said he would go $1K for the tower, shipped. This for the tower only, no keyboard, mouse, monitor, or speakers. Otherwise he is going to part it out.

hmm... you could always nab a copy of xp and then use a key maker to give you a serial key so thats not a problem... (registering the same serial isn't such a good idea. microsoft get lairy)
