What benefits do you get having 2 GTX 280 over just 1 GTX 280? I've been thinking about getting two GTX 280's but, wanted some well informed feedback.

I will be upgrading two computers sooner or later (Not going dual monitor)

Monitor 1 is a Eizo Flexscan S2410W res (1920x1200)

Is this Eizo monitor with max Res listed above would 2 GTX 280's really give me any benefit at all

Monitor 2 Gateway XHD3000 30 in (2560x1600)

What benefit would 2 GTX 280's give me with this monitor vs just 1 GTX 280 at res 2560x1600

Is benefit mainly for games nothing else

Yes they will be Core I7 machines

Thanks

Pretty sure the second GTX 280 would give you a significant increase in performance for the 2560 x 1900. If anything deserves two GTX 280's, it's definitely that res.

A second GTX 280 for 1920 x 1200, well, I think you'd be better off with two GTX 260's in terms of price/performance. A second 280 would probably give you a noticeable increase in FPS, not sure if it would be high enough to spend that money in my opinion.

EDIT: Wow, both i7s! Those should be some pretty bangin' machines.

On a 30" monitor SLI is almost required if you want to get the most out of it. As for 1920x1200, you can probably get away with a single 280 or SLI 260s. I'm running SLI 260 on 24" monitors and it runs pretty smooth.

Ditto... a 24" native resolution is demanding. The 260 manages it just fine.

just a suggestion but the gtx 260 216 core card's will give you equal if not better performance than the gtx 280 at a fraction of the cost

just for the record, a 30" monitor has roughly 90% more pixels than a 24". Thats why sli is almost required.
