Ive been outa the game for a few years now and I need some insight, I am looking to build a gaming pc that can double as a multi screen multitasking rig for which i can complete work on. The work I am looking to complete is not processor intense but it is screen space intense I would ideally like to go with a dual GPU that i can run in sli or xfire for gaming but then not when i need screen space if any one can help me out with some suggestions that would be great.
I currently am in need of all componets as i sold my previous rig about a year and a half ago. I would like to do OCing and i am gonna try to do water cooling as heat in my area is a big concern

Thanks everyone

and btw my budget is around 2k US

My current idea for a build feel free to tell me to change items or that im stupid of choosing something haha

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703027 - PSU $140

or this combo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.494055 - MOBO&PSU combo $280

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115214 - CPU $284

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231356 - RAM $260

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130549 - GPU $325

im not familiar with watercooling so if you all can suggest a case that would work well with that and the necessary componets that would be greatly appericated

how compatiable are those GPUs with water cooling? will they require a bunch of tooling to get the fans off and put the water blocks on? also where do you recomend shopping for water cooling stuff?

Nividia cards love being water cooled!

EK GeForce 470 GTX VGA Liquid Cooling Block - Nickel + Acetal (EK-FC470 GTX-Nickel+Acetal) Hot Item! - FrozenCPU.com

newegg has some water cooling stuff

frozenCPU is good, sidewindercomputers is good

edit: taking cooler off 470

second Edit...

hmm after seeing Slaymates build i thought how does 2 470's compare to a single 5970.

and per this website: http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-470-2-3-way-sli-review/13

GTX 470's in SLI score almost identicle to a single 5970... and 2 470's cost almost identicle as much as a 5970... with that in mind, i would go witha 5970 over 2 470's because down the road when you want more oomph out of your computer, if you have 2 video cards already, that wont let you add another one, where as if yu have a sinle 5970, and 2 years down the road, you want more out and a 5970 cost ( lets say ) $300, you can pick up another one and toss it in there and you will be good to go for another long while...

so in my oppinion, i would change SLI 470's to a 5970. plus its easier to water cool a single card ( and less expensive ) then a 2 cards.

Thanks for the info, but i need the dual cards not so much for graphics power but for monitor support i plan on running at least 3 if not 4 monitors, i need the screen space for what i do at work. does anyone know a way to run cards in SLI while i play games but not when i am doing work?

The 5xxx series have Eyefinity which will let you run three monitors off one card. Some 5xxx cards have additional ports on them to run even more. I think there is even a twelve port card out there.

thanks man, ill keep looking for a program or setting out there that would allow me to sli cards but run them independently when i need to
