I'm not a computer expert. I've built a few dozen machines for work/gaming/friends, but I always tend to take A VERY LONG TIME trying to find a deal, ensure that parts are compatible, re-learning hardware hierarchy, etc. It stresses me out. I'm going to do it ONE MORE TIME, and I'd like your help on this low-end gaming PC.
AMD Athlon 64bit 3800 512k [Socket 939]
Gigabyte K8NF-9, nForce4, PCI-EX, DDR 400, SATA
1GB PC 3200 DDR400
ATI Radeon x1600PRO 256MB PCI Express 16x dual head
80GB Hitachi/ IBM 7200rpm SATA2 UDMA 300 8m Cache
Okia 400W ATX Power Supply
I haven't built a machine in several years, so my knowledge of the processor/video card food chain is pretty out of whack, thus I'm not totally sure where I stand. What could this system do, performance-wise? What games could I expect to run/not run? Also, it seems like that power supply is kind of wimpy. Should I go higher?
I realize I'm asking a lot, so any help is GREATLY appreciated!
PS: Stupid question, is there anyway to use my old ATA drives on a SATA mobo?
