Default Back for one more try

I'm not a computer expert. I've built a few dozen machines for work/gaming/friends, but I always tend to take A VERY LONG TIME trying to find a deal, ensure that parts are compatible, re-learning hardware hierarchy, etc. It stresses me out. I'm going to do it ONE MORE TIME, and I'd like your help on this low-end gaming PC.

Proccessor:
AMD Athlon 64bit 3800 512k [Socket 939]

Mobo:
Gigabyte K8NF-9, nForce4, PCI-EX, DDR 400, SATA

Ram:
1GB PC 3200 DDR400

Video:
ATI Radeon x1600PRO 256MB PCI Express 16x dual head

HDD:
80GB Hitachi/ IBM 7200rpm SATA2 UDMA 300 8m Cache

Power:
Okia 400W ATX Power Supply

$591.00

I haven't built a machine in several years, so my knowledge of the processor/video card food chain is pretty out of whack, thus I'm not totally sure where I stand. What could this system do, performance-wise? What games could I expect to run/not run? Also, it seems like that power supply is kind of wimpy. Should I go higher?

I realize I'm asking a lot, so any help is GREATLY appreciated!

PS: Stupid question, is there anyway to use my old ATA drives on a SATA mobo?

Thanks!

ok build here are my suggestions keeping it under $600

processor:athlon 64 x2 4800+
motherboard: MSI K9VGM-V Socket AM2 VIA K8M890 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
Ram: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ - Retail
Vga: EVGA 512-P2-N548-TX GeForce 7600GS 512MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card
harddrive: seagate barracuda 7200.10 320gb
psu: antec true power trio 430W

$570 after rebates

allowing you to buy a cpu cooler to overclock or a better motherboard I chose this one only because it has good reviews

are you trying to re-use ide drives or sata 1.5gb/sec??? both will work it just depends on your motherboard

I'm trying to re-use old IDE drives, or at least have some method of transfering stuff over to the new SATA drive.

One drive I bought about a year ago. 300GB. And yeah, I've got plenty of CD/DVD drives.

if its one drive then its even easier I thought you might have more then 2 then you would struggle. you just plug it in the ide socket. ill just look for a new motherboard as I just noticed that the one I suggested has:

1. fried someones sata harddrive an psu
2. only has sata 1.5gb/sec the old standard
