Audio wire from dvd palyer

Can someone tell me if I need to connect up the audio wire that goes from my dvd drivers to my sound module on my mobo (DFI SL-DR)?

A guy in the shop said i dont need it as the audio will pass along the IDE cable but I cant gat any sound when i play a DVD.

Also if i have two dvd drives can you get an audio cable that splits into two?

The guy at the shop is a little confused there are dvd roms with that connector blank then you don't need the wire, but If it does have the connector then the sound quality is much better if you use the wire, but you should still get some sound. I have never seen a Y connector but your sound card (onboard or not) should have two connector's for this on it, then just use two of them.

i have the same board and watch dvd's on my comp all the time without that cable and it sounds fine to me. Those boards have excellent on-board sound
