At first I wasn't even considering this processor because it only has 512 kb of l2 cache, and I was told 1mb is a HHHUUUUGGGGEEEE improvement over 512kb. So the options are an Athlon 64 3700, or an Athlon 64 3800 X2. The 3700 has 1mb of l2 cache, .2ghz faster, and is 110 bucks cheaper, the 3800 X2, however, has 2 cores, but with less cache and slower speeds. Which one would have noticably better performance for gaming, and under which circumstances would one perform better than the other. Thanks oodles :)

Not really. If you consider iTunes and 3 internet explorers multitasking, then yes, but that isn't that hard. What I'm asking, is in future games (ut2k7, oblivion) which will perform better?

i thought the x2 was a 512x2 l2 cache.. doesnt that make 1 gb... making it equal to the 3700's cache??

and by the way just out of curiousity.. how is cache pronounced??? i'm tired of not knowing...

Would an opty 165 be a better choice? It has the 1mb of l2 cache, and it is dual core.

10 mins later: I think I have decided on the 165. I just want to be able to oc it to 2.2 and I will be one happy ****ing camper :)

2.2 is ur goal OC? talk about lowered expectations. I'd go with the opty, if i didn't care about the price. I think for gaming and cheaping out on price the 3700+ is the best option...when I upgrade it will probably be to an opty, but this should last me at least another year or two.

Athlon 64 X2 CPU's:
3800+ = 2 x 512kb L2 cache
4200+ = 2 x 512kb L2 cache
4400+ = 2 x 1024kb L2 cache
4600+ = 2 x 512kb L2 cache
4800+ = 2 x 1024kb L2 cache
FX-60 = 2 x 1024kb L2 cache
