not sure... I just sent him an email. he only wants 200 for the whole thing... but if it won't run a 8800GTS I'm prolly not gonna bother...

Of course it will, but theoretically bottlenecks don't make too huge of an effect in performance

(Dr.) Bottlenecks: Or, How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Just Buy the GPU - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

but you can always upgrade it if its a Socket 939 or AM2

Theoretically however with a CPU such as an old athlon 64 with a smokin G92 8800gts there is quite a huge difference.

Well ya... but I guess that applies mostly with Dual-Cores

But would It bottleneck it so much that I would notice a huge reduction in performance ??

for $200 +160 for a 8800GTS I can have a good system to play Aoc on... whata u guys think ?

or would even the 8800gts be overkill for such an old system?

I'm assuming I can overclock the CPU to around 3.0 GHZ...and its a dual core

I'm still waiting to hear back from him about the mobo...

Its overkill for a single core processor, just upgrade the CPU... find out if its 939 or AM2 and buy a new one..

For $200 you can build a better system with a dual core.
