Default Architecture of AMD vs Intel?

Forget price and performance for a second. OK, well don't totally forget performance. But I'm wondering what distinguishes AMD from Intel processors? Is one more efficient? Cooler? Longer lasting? You get the picture ...

I'm not familiar with their architectures, but one big difference is AMD having an onboard memory controller. I think the advantage of having the memory controller onboard the CPU die, is to reduce latencies. While Intel's memory controller is embedded into the Northbridge chipset.

Another difference between them, is that Intels are usually, if not, always the better overclockers. I'm not sure why. Maybe some of the more advanced folks here, can help with that.
