Another RAM question...

I'm wanting to put in 2GB of RAM for around $300. I will only be using this comp for gaming and I won't be OC'ing. My question is whats the main difference between DDR400 and 500? I know that DDR500 runs faster but is that what I need for gaming. I've had my eye on..

What's the difference between these two? I just need some input on what would be the best for around $300.

That motherboard supports DDR400. We buy DDR500 so that when we overclock, the only thing that gets overclocked is the CPU. If you use DDR500, it will run at DDR400. See why?

OK I gotcha. So what is the best DDR400 RAM for around $300? I mean if I go top notch Corsair XMS or OCZ will I notice any difference?

Heck, if you go with ValueRAM, you wont notice a difference. The ONLY difference that you will notice in performance in regards to RAM is with overclocking.

Just make sure to get stuff with a lifetime warranty (ie: Kingston) and you'll be set.

That's not exactly true. If you compare some valueram with 3-4-4-8 timings, and some high performance ram with 2-2-2-5 timings, the high performance ram will have some extra bandwidth, making it a little faster. And with such a nice mobo like the AN832, I don't know why you'd want some cheap value ram.

I highly doubt that one would notice an actual difference. I think the only difference you would notice is via a benchmark.

Even if you have a nice mobo, I dont know why you would want expensive RAM that isnt gonna give you a noticeable increase in performance.

I agree, if you really have no plans on OC'ing, just get a good name valueram. You will never notice any performance difference from the tighter timings of the expensive stuff.
