But, yeah I guess you're right NeedAcpu, you are best to get an 3700+ for $20 more than the 3500+.

You cant measure speeds with an X2 3800+, its simple as two 3200+ cores working together :)

I would get the 3700+ or an Opty 144 or 146 and just OC, it will defintely last a few more years
 
See if you can stretch for the Opteron 148 ($256?) from Newegg. It'll overclock much better than the 3700+ (Though the 3700+ is an excellent processor and would be my recommendation after the Opteron). You're practically guaranteed 3.0GHz with the Opteron 148, while you can expect 2.8GHz from the 3700+.
