AMD or Intel processor for a gaming build? $1000 budget

Patonb, I'm not quite sure that I follow...
If I were to get the 6 core AMD, would I be able to manually set processes to use certain cores via Taskmanager? Would it remember those settings?
I remember doing this once, but the computer I am currently on has task manager disabled (college).

You could, but win7 does a great job of balancing out services... I just said the 2 and 2 and 2 as 90% of things are only dual core optimized, so it will only use 33% max.. I used process lasso and it remembered, so a real infinity setter should too.

A ht intel has 8 "cores" but some programs run better on real cores vs HT cores...

i5 2500 at stock speeds is overall better 1090T

There is no point in getting 1090T over i5 2500 specially if you are using photoshop or gaming (both which perform better on i5 2500)

Even if you use application that can use all the cores of 1090T, i5 2500 can still compete with it.

the i5 2500 is roughly 10% faster than the 1090t based on passmark scores which test a bunch of different things, so it's a pretty good benchmark, and with 2 extra cores, if you can utilize them, the 1090t would be faster, and they come in around the same price.
