Here is an article regarding the 64-bit discussion. This article focuses on Conroe not benefiting from a 64-bit environment, but it should also be noted that A64 does not benefit much at all either (2%-3%). Actually, based on the article Netburst chips seem to be the only ones getting a significant boost from 64-bit code.
Also, as far as I know, EM64T is basically just a replica of A64, since it was noted that when it came out Intel basically copied A64 in order to make a consistent environment for developers.
