Default AM2 and 939 , will i be able to go x2?

ok im under the impression that AM2 and 939 are practically the same, i have an AMD 64 3800+ and i want to buy the AM2 3800+ x2, will this work on my board?

nFORCE3-939
i heard a rumour that all teh Nforce 3 chipsets will support x2's is this true?

i figure doube the performance for 50 is worth it.

ALSO will a stock 3800+ fan work ok on a 3800+x2 or are the retail fans bigger
for x2's?

EDIT: i really should sleep, i can get a 939 version of this CPU so as to my otehr questions?, and will this be 2x3800+'s so two cores runnign at 2.4Ghz?

AM2 and 939, are totally different sockets. AM2 has one more pin, as well as being arranged differently, than 939.

That might be true for the NF3 chipset, but sometimes the motherboard requires a BIOS update, in order to support a dual core processor.

Your 3800+'s stock fan might work on the X2, if it's the same socket.

I don't think it's exactly two 3800+s. The X2 3800+, is more like 2 x 3000+ or 3200+, running at 2.0GHz each.

Keep in mind that if your board can't overclock, you'll actually get worse performance in some games with the 3800+ X2 than your current 3800+

okl, well i have a 939 and i get the AM2 thing now, how come its 2x 2Ghz and not 2.4Ghz how is that then a 3800?. my board can OC my single core 3800+ now runs at about 2.7Ghz (just under) if i get this x2 3800 chips and OC it to slighlty under will it be less improvement or not?

does a x2 even benefit in like a game?

It is two core running each at 2GHz, because the stock speed of an X2 3800+, is 2.0GHz. So it's more like two 3000+ or 3200+ in one. Since your motherboard can overclock, you can overclock the X2 as well, to 3800+ speeds.

X2 will benefit in the future games, as they will support multiple cores. As of now, theres not really a full game, that fully supports multi-core processors.

correct..... but isn't supreme commander dual-core optimized??

It might be...but I'm not sure, if any game out there now, uses up 100% of all cores yet.

so will my current single core 3800+ @ 2.7Ghz perform better or worse then say an OCed x2 3800+ @2.4/2.3Ghz?

The 3800+@2.7GHz will outperform it on current games and single threaded applications...but the X2 will be more beneficial to future gaming and applications, as more and more things are going multi-threaded and multi-core. It will also multitask better and more efficiently, than a single core 3800+.
