IÂ’m building a PC for my buddy over the break with a 2,000$ budget. Tell me what you think of the components that IÂ’ve chosen. My friend does some gaming and allot of 3D and 2D digital editing. IÂ’m not sure if I want to go with the motherboard that I have picked out and I deciding on if I want to change the ram as well. IÂ’m going to lightly overclock, maybe to about 3GHz or so. I hope that ram motherboard combo can get me there. IÂ’m hovering right around my budget cap so if I change anything I might have to downgrade something else. I donÂ’t have any experience with that power supply but I like its specs, I want to try and keep it modular if I can. Any Q and A are welcome. Thanks guy.

Okay, the build looks good, but I have a few minor gripes.

First off, for some gaming and 3d graphics, a Core 2 Duo will be just fine. There is no need for an overclock, and if you are doing the build for someone else, it is not a good idea to add instability with overclocking. In games, a few 100 mhz does not make much of a difference, it is about benchmarks.

So, cut the Zalman fan, and grab a sound card. Onboard sound sucks. The stock fan will keep the CPU plenty cool, and with the money, you can pick up a decent sound card.

I dont think my buddy needs a sound card, he has the crappiest speakers in the world. He really wants to overclock but I might be able to talk him out of it. I was thinking about downgrading the CPU cooler and maybe the motherboard to a ds3 and getting some better ram but I dont know yet.
