Hi,

I require an advanced PC to run memory and graphics expensive applications, their custom programs for analysing Scientific data, i require dual operating systems (windows for personal use and Linux for other work) i will also want it for playing up to date games and general home media internet browsing etc.

The computers we generally use are top notch on the power and graphics

So ive been looking around, i found this pc in my price range..

MSI P6N SLI v2 LGA775, DDR2, SATA2, GBLan, ATX - Motherboard
Intel Core2 Quad 6600 2.4Ghz LGA775 Processor
XFX 320MB nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 560M PCI-Express VGA Card
500Gb Samsung Spinpoint T 7200Rpm S-ATAII 300 Hard Drive
2Gb of 800hz ram

and other stuff such as blu ray player etc monitor.......

Im concerned about the processor as i believe this is a 64bit processor, albeit i have little knowledge of the details of how this affects the use. Can i just start using vista and applications i already use... ie office - ie - media player - divx etc etc, as iv been led to believe on some forums that a lot of programs do not work on a 64 bit processor.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers

I think you got mixed up between a 64-bit processor, and a 64-bit OS. The 64-bit OS, is the one that has trouble with the lack of compatibility, of software. You can use 32-bit applications with a 64-bit processor, no problem.

That processor is great for what you're planning to do.
