Honestly, unless you plan on doing a lot of video editing, which may be the case, but if not down grade to an i5 3570k and upgrade your video card. Just my 2 cents.

+1 to that. An i7 3770K will over no benefits as far as gaming goes compared to an i5 3570K.

I'm not really into gaming but wanted it to be as fast as I can get it for everything else. I'm in software development so the video card wasn't to important to me, but what video card would you suggest if I downgrade the cpu?

I forgot to add a PSU lol, i added it to my post.

Saying that you did downgrade to an i5, just take the difference from the i5 and i7, and just upgrade to the highest GTX you can with the brand of your choosing.

If you want advice, get a gtx 560 ti or a 480 gtx. the 480 is older, but should still outperform even the 560 ti by quite a bit.

Gaming isn't his priority so there really is no need at all in getting anything higher than the 550ti. He should keep the i7.

What if I keep the 550 ti and downgrade to the i5? Will the i7 be a noticeable difference for what I'm doing ( visual studio, vmware, etc ). The only game I see myself playing will be CS:GO

I'd say that the i5 should get the job done but it's up to you and what you prefer in that regard.
