Default ? about burners

Whats the difference between Dvd burners and combo drives?

I'm asking because I never bought one, i just ganked an old cd drive, but i want one now. I have other ways to burn CDs to so it hasn't come up.

Yeah thats what I thought too, but if you go to newegg and look at the specs they say write times and such for both dvds and cds.

Combo drives are usually a DVD reader + CD writer/reader.

DVD Burners do everything.

Yep you're right, thank you.

I'm only gonna spend about $30 give or take, but I have to decide if I want faster read times or the ability to write DVDs (which I've never needed.)

I would just go with the dvd. I didnt think I needed one when I built my rig. but now I really am lacking with out one. But that just means my burning times will be faster when my cdrw drive is reading while the dvdrw drive is copying.
