"The 9800GTX is just an OC'ed 8800GTS, so its not worth $50 more."

Ok.......and you can OC the 9800GTX to 800/2400 very easily. Is that worth $50? I know people love their 8800s, but the 9800GTX is worth the money. It really is. I have owned the 8600GTS, 8800GT, and 8800GTS. The 9800GTX is the best buy, IMO.

Only if you overclock though. If you don't, I would go with the 8800GT.

Is that quote supposed to be from a review online, or just one you grabbed from general forum users? If you could find a review or benchmarks to back up that the OC'd version of the 9800GTX does have a good enough performance boost over the 8800GTS, then I would be very intrigued.

Actually I said that before.. 9800gtx is a OC'ed 8800gts g92, but being already at 2000mhz (or something) Memory clock, it can go up a lot more because of its better memory chip or somethign

BTW: any plans to move to Phenom dhgunit?

Nope. Going Q6700 if I can find a buyer for my Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe and X2 6000+. I am being bottlenecked right now with my new 9800GTX.

Also, I am not being a fanboy of the 9800GTX because I have one. I would have bought 9600GT in SLI, but I wanted a single card to step-up to the GTX 280. Talk about a bottleneck then.....but I have until the start of August to figure out my CPU situation.

I myself would love to see a review of an OCed 9800GTX. People love the benchmark an OCed 8800GTS vs a stock 9800GTX. When I OCed my 9800GTX to 802/2400, I gained an additional 1,000 3dmark06 points.

And you have to remember, that is with an AMD 6000+. I bet I would have had a much larger increase with a quad core Intel that would give me some room to push it.

No offense.. but are you kidding? Why pay 100 extra dollars just for an overclocked version of an almost identical card?

I doubt that those 1000 extra points did anything.. thats probably 2-3 frames on Crysis on high. 3DMark is great for measuring your computer's performance in a benchmark. Real-world games is the best way to test your computer's performance. I doubt you will find many people that would ever recommend a 9800gtx over a 8800gts, simply because it's not worth the money at the moment.

Sounds like your another victim of Nvidia's cleverly designed, extra sneaky naming scheme. :(

*edit* Wait a minute did you say $50? Last time I checked the 9800gtx is around 300, the 8800gt is around 170 and the 8800gts is around 200...
