Because the graphic cars out now are very powerful...the cpu cant handle it.

Yeah it will, but he wont get near 10k. I barely get 10k with my card oc'd and my X2 @ 3.1ghz, at 2.2 he'll only get about 7k.

Even two oc'd 7950gt's get slaughtered by the 8800gt at stock.

Any suggestions on what CPU to get to go along with the 8800GT? Also if anyone has benchmarks comparing the two cards that'll be great.

Youre on 939, so there not really any reasonable upgrade. The card would still run games better, i mean 7k in 3mark06 is not bad.....you could still run cod4 maxed out and get over 60fps.

i get near 7k with out an 8800gt, if he got something leek an opteron 165, i think they only have 185 now tho, he would do very well with the 185 over clocked and an 8800gt. Newegg.com - AMD Opteron 175 Denmark 2.2GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 110W Dual-Core Processor - Retail
opteron 175 for sale on new egg.
