Hey guys. I'm about to purchase an 8800gt that has been v modded in advance. The price is fair, and I was in need of an nvidia card for a few of my own reasons. But my 4850 will be taking a backseat when I get the new 8800gt.

@ About 780/1944/1200 how would this 8800gt compare to a stock 4850? Would it possibly beat it?

With the games I play everyday I could live with a stock 8800gt so I am not worried. I am just curious about how the 2 compare like this.

Buy a 9800gt instead or maybe even a GTS 250.
The 8800's are outdated, sad to say the 9 series is almost too

9800gt's are either just 8800gt's or 55nm 8800gt's. Not a big difference. Originally ticked me off, now I don't care.
And if you can find me a 9800gt with a clean vgpu and vmem mod at this price or lower I'll grab it.
Gts250 looked over priced to me... I can get a few used gtx260's for close to the price.

Getting this 8800gt + the indah sinks off of aspire will keep it @ a low price... a fairly cheap way to boost my folding power, give me some physx if I want, and some cuda options as well as fixing a few problems I can only solve by switching from ATI to Nvidia. I don't feel like spending major dough before dx11 nvidia gpu's are out. The 4850 I'll play with later probably. I need a back up card anyway.

Anyway, I'm guessing it will be close enough to 4850 performance... It's not like I need that much power for the old games I play anyways.

I'd say its a close call... The HD 4830 is faster than a 9800GT, but slightly behind an HD 4850... so based on that logic a super-overclocked kind of high 8800GT could theoretically match an HD 4850. I'd say its a close call, with nVidia taking the lead depending or not if its a TWIWMTBP game or not.. I really can't say for sure.. but I say its a close call

GTS 250 = 9800GTX+

9800GT = 55nm or 65nm rebadged 8800gt

He's a pretty smart guy... I doubt he would pay more than $80 for one...

But why not go and re-use your old 8800GT and Vmod it yourself

My thoughts for doing this:
I'm paying very little for the card with professional vmods done to it by a competent and well known person.

It is true that for a tiny bit more I could get a 9800gtx,+,gts250 1gb, gtx260, gtx280, gtx285, gtx295, gtx295 mars edition from asus.
When does it stop?
The truth is, even at 1900x1200... I didn't use my 4850 crossfire for much more intensive games then stalker clear skies and crysis/warhead. After playing them... my single 4850 (Now at stock again) handles all other games just fine...
I'm preparing for dx11 as well. No point paying more for "future games" when I want to play them in dx11 later anyway...

@ Vernong, I sold both 8800gt's long ago, getting great deals for both of them at the time. I don't normally keep extra cards long. The 4850 probably will go soon.
I also have a 9800gt sitting behind me from xfx right now... But it's for a client (I guess you could say that). I considered asking him if he wanted a free upgrade to a 4850, but I don't have a dremel or the other stuff with me... In the long run it takes less work and money to get the final result.

A heavily overclocked 8800gt that folds like a beast and lets me game.

In conclusion :D:D:D:D:D
If I just screwed up.. at least I only spent the small amount I am paying rather then putting out $200 for a gtx260 with ram sinks, the gt200 bracket for my mcw60 and so on.
