Default $800 i5 Gamin g Rig

I'm from Canada and trying to build a gaming rig. The budget is around $700 but I can spend up to 1k if it's worth the investment.

One small tidbit is that the family netgear G router is on the main floor while my computer will either be in the basement or upstairs so I'll need a good wireless card or something.

Criteria:
- to play games like L4d2 or starcraft2 but capable of playing crysis optimally
- reliable and last for couple yrs (3-5) to keep up with game advances
- can add in upgrades like HD or processor or graphics card update if necessary.

My rig:

CPU - i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz
Newegg.ca - Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

GPU - XFX HD 4890 1G
Newegg.ca - XFX HD-489X-ZSFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Memory - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
Newegg.ca - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL8D-4GBHK - Desktop Memory

Motherboard - MSI P55-GD65 LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard
Canada Computers - Motherboards > Socket LGA1156 : MSI P55-GD65 Socket 1156 Intel P55 Express Chipset Dual-Channel DDR3 2133/2000/1800/1600/1333Mhz 2x PCI-E X16 7.1-Ch HD Audio 7x SATAII 1x eSATA Dual GigaLAN IEEE1394 ATX.

HD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 750GB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5
Newegg.ca - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3750528AS 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Case - NZXT Tempest
Buy the NZXT Tempest ATX Mid-Tower Case at TigerDirect.ca

Power Supply - Antec BP430
Newegg.ca - Antec Basiq BP430 430W Continuous Power ATX12V Version 2.2 Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

Heat sink?

Probably be also keeping an eye for any deals that are worth buying.

I'm in the same boat, and while I'm not the most knowledgeable, I found your PSU choice a little surprising. The i5 is groovy and all, and the graphics accelerator looks respectable, I would expect nothing less than 500w sustained to be a no-brainer.

The rig I'm looking at (in CAD$ also), includes a 750w Corsair. It'd be a shame to put it together only to have your PSU struggle when you kick Crysis into gear.

Spend the extra money on this PSU,

Newegg.ca - CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Power Supplies

will be worth it in the long run.

alrite, a few updates

i brought the xfx radeon 4890 at tigerdirect for $210 instead of $195...hopefully i still get that $25 rebate

also brought the cool master haf 932 instead for $120 at Canada Computers.
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

I think it was a bit too excessive as i've only got one hard-drive and tons of space and it's HEAVY. Guess if i went with a lower end, could had save $60 bucks there before taxes.

altogether, came out to be $946 before taxes ($1070 after thanks to 13% CDN taxes) .

Oh yeah, there's an old dvd-cd drive somewhere, so i got that covered.

Overall it's a decent build I say.
