is 8-Pin connector REQ?(E6600)

I'm just wondering if the E6600 processor REQUIRES a 8Pin ATV12V connector because I just found out that my Hiper R580 doesnt come with one, only a 4-PIN. The EVGA NForce680i mobo has the 8-pin 12v connector but it gives me the option of plugging in the 4-pin, although in the manual it recommends to use a 8pin. So im just wondering if the E6600 absolutely REQUIRES an 8-pin to operate. And also if I dont use an 8-pin, will it slow down its performance or effect it in any way?

It depends on the motherboard. A good 4 pin will easily be enough.
