Default 7800gt 512mb or 7900 gt256??

im upgrading my computer and wanted to know what video card will give better performance. I dont want to have to upgrade again until atleast next year. I cant decide because im not sure wether its better to get the slightly slower7800gt with 512mb or the faster 7900gt with only 256mb. I will probably be getting a Athlon 64 3200 and 2gb ram with it. Thanks for any help

btw here are some specs

GeForce 7900 GT, 24pp, vp8, 256-bit GDDR3, 450MHz core, 1320 MHz mem
GeForce 7800 GT, 20pp, vp7, 256-bit GDDR3, 400MHz core, 1000MHz mem

and besides.. i've never heard of 7800gt w/ 512.. i know there's a 512 version of the 7800gtx.. but not the 7800gt. anyways, the 7900gt is better than the 7800gtx...

7900GT, the extra memory won't help as much as extra pipelines and faster clocks speeds that the 7900GT has.

Get the 7900. Plus just food for thought, the G8 comes out in like 6 months I think and that will be fully direct X 10 compatible.

7900GTX>7800GTX512>7900GT>7800GTX256>7800GT>7800GS >7600GT>7600GS

The 7900GT could most likely OC to speeds just below or around the 7900GTX256 and 7800GTX512 though and costs somewhere around 1/2-2/3 of the price. Please note the 7800GTX512 is no longer being produced and was insanely overpriced in it's days of production.
