I am upgrading my system and I am not sure weather to go the 512 or with the regular GTX.

I am not exactly sure what makes the 512 worth the extra $300. Plus i have read that the extra RAM on the 512 adds latency so it runs at a little bit slower frame rates than the regular gtx.

So I want to know why the 512 is supposed to be so much better than its predecsors?

Heres a refrence for the frame rates

Because it's clocked it 550/1800 compared to the regular GTX which is clocked at 430/1250.

Yeah but don't you clock it for the fps?

And the fps are lower on the 512

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong

Those results are complete rubbish. The preformance gain from the clock speeds alone is going to be HUGE. Find another review, that one is b0rk3d. You must also take into account that the 512mb 7800gtx uses 1.1ns memory, where as the 256mb 7800gtx uses 1.3-1.4ns memory, so that just proves the results are totally screwed up. Mabey they were using old drivers.

the cpu is prolly bottlenecking the 512(my comp is crashing on the site 4 some reason)...some of these reviews use a freaking 3200+ or 3700+

if i were u, wait a few moths for the 7800Ultra to drop $200 to 499, no vid card is worth $699...

you wont be able to OC it much cuz it already is pretty heavily overclocked to begin with...i wouldnt expect enormous gains in OCing

Well, if you've got the money, and that's what you wanna do, I say go for it. $750 is a lot of money to throw down on a video card. Also, you better have a FX-57 or higher if you plan on getting everything out of the 7800GTX 512MB. If not... Stick to the 7800GTX - which still requires a very high-end CPU for maximum results.
