7600GT Speculation

hmm... even with the 7800gt dropping in price so dramatically? They're at 280ish right now. Won't they drop more when the 7900 and this 7600 are released? That just seems like a logical pattern to me. $250 seems like it'll be too steep.

7800GT is falling in price so fast because of the 7900GT on the horizon, which is going to be roughly as fast as 2 7800GTs in SLI. That should put the 7800GT around the $200-250 price range and the 7600GT around $150-$200. Since you are okay with 1024x768, you couldn't go wrong with either the 7800GT, 7600GT, or 6800GS, all of which are designed to scream at that resolution in today's games.

Geez, I have terrible timing. I want the 7800GT, but it's out of my price range, for now. If I get the 6800GS, I'll kick myself when the 7800GT goes down in price. Perhaps the eVGA step-up program is something I should look into?

Err, it's going to be faster yes, but not anywher near as fast as two 7800GT's in SLI. The 7900 series is simply a mid winter refresh of the G70. The real beast will be the G80. The 7900GT is susposed to have 24 pipes, the 7800GTX already has that.

Its the clock speed on those 24 pipes thats going to make it scream. But I agree, 6800 and 7800 series people should skip the 7900 series and wait for the G80. My advice on this may change though if UT2007 is released well before the G80 (that is if the G80 is delayed till Vista).

540/1250 if I have the right score to give you a rough idea

Hmm. Sad. In typical TF fashion. First you guys were saying that the 7900GTX was going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread and now you're saying, "The real great thing is going to be GeForce 8." Well I told you something like that way back when, didn't I? If you keep saying, "Wait for the next best thing," you're going to keep waiting forever.

And where did you guys get that the 7900GTX has 24 pipes? It has 32. 32 pipes and a Core Speed of 700MHz.
