Default $500 build

Just need a rig that can play the latest games decent, how much can 500 bucks get me? Need OS btw also.

Dang thats going to be tough, can't you reuse your key or something? Because without an OS, you only get like $320 to create a system

Just reuse an XP key and we can work something up through budget parts and overclocking. If you can;t re-use an XP then obtain one somewhere from someone.

Yep, and if you don't have the Installation Media Downloading it is safe, as the key determines the legality

Or you can get Vista for 95 bucks..leaving only 405 for the actual machine though.

thats hardly anything to work on for a gaming computer. I can actually make a 500 buck gaming box that will play even the newest games fairly well. While the case and ram may not be of the highest quality with a little overclocking and smart shopping 500 can go a long way.

Yeah 500 w/o OS is barely possible (for gaming anyways)
I recommend saving at least 600.

Make it $595, I can do it with $500 too, but $405 is too little

This build comes to $548 before mail in rebates and is as cheap I could make it while still being good at gaming. I recommend overclocking the cpu to at least 2.2-2.4ghz which should be fairly easy.
