4870 driver help on vista

Just got my 4870. About two days ago I sold my 3870 and when I took it out I forgot to uninstall the drivers. So I booted up the 4870 today and Vista automatically installs drivers. Well I wanted a clean install so I deleted the ATI Catalyst program from install list. I also deleted the display drivers under the device manager. After that I went to ATI site and downloaded the 8.12 driver and catalyst control center program. For some reason after the restart it's not working.

Vista also tried to install drivers again after restart. It said something about failure because the drivers are for a older OS.

Any ideas?

I'm going to install the drivers again to see if it works.

I had a similar problem installing 8.12 for a 4850 and installing it a second time fixed it.

I'm about to just use the disc to install this. I can't get it to work. Guess I will try one more time before using the disc...

Ok second try worked! Weird...

I have heard this card is loud but you can adjust the fan settings. I've never messed around with gpu settings before. Do I do this in Catalyst center?

i think you can, but rivatuner is better for overclocking and fan control.

Catalyst has fan control now. It;'s under ATi overdrive which is at the bottom of the list under advanced view.

Nice. You can OC from there too. Does it matter if I use this or riva for OC?
