OK... So which one is better?

6600, 7300GS or 7300GT?

I also think I will go with just 512 stick, if what he can get another 512 later on.

A 6600 (non-GT) will beat a 7300GS, but is matched by a 7300GT. Essentially:

7300GT ~ 6600 > 7300GS

I'm basing this comparison on the cards' pipelines, texture units, memory bus width and core/memory clocks.

With the exact cards you posted, I'm inclining towards the 6600, but I'm not really convinced. You could also look for a discount (open-box for instance) 6600GT, that's a bit better than both the 7300GT and the 6600.

Edit: also, if you're looking the ATI way, roughly equivalent cards are the X1300Pro, X1300XT and X1600Pro. Both the X1300XT and X1600Pro have 12 pixel pipelines, so they're probably faster than a 6600GT.

So in the great scheme of things it would look like:

X1600Pro ~ X1300XT > 6600GT > X1300 > 7300GT ~ 6600 > 7300GS

All based on reference values. This is a generalization; ultimately it will depend on the particular cards specs, since many manufacturers sell cards with better settings than the reference card. People are more than welcome to refute me.

Some websites say that X1300XT and X1600Pro has 12 pixel pipelines but thats wrong

X1300XT, X1600Pro, X1650pro and X1600xt have 4 pixel pipelines but they can do 3 shaders per each pixel pipeline

The 7300GT that I posted is 64bit version, so it has very low memory bandwidth. So, I really can't tell you which is better the 6600 or 7300GT. But I 'm very sure that both of them are better than 7300GS and X550.

Anyway I would go with 6600 because it is cheaper than 7300GT

The 7300GT (128bit version) is better than 6600, and also the GDDR3 version of 7300GT is better than 6600GT

The 6600GT in some benchmarks can even beat the X1600xt in some games, so I don't think that X1600pro can beat 6600GT.

Thats more correct
7300GT (GDDR3) > X1600Pro ~ X1300XT ~ 6600GT > 7300GT >6600 >7300GS

I personally hate ECS mobos, never had good luck with the low end skt939 ones.

Thanks for your corrections, maroon1. I didn't know the 7300GT (GDDR3) was that good. But I wasn't so far off, was I?
