Well I don't really know how the directx and opengl thing works but I'm sure that you won't see that performance dip since Crysis uses DirectX

CAD programs like Solidworks, CATIA, Pro/E, Inventor are OpenGL based. I think its due to the fact that they be compatible with different OS's.

Video cards like the Nvidia quaddro series are optimized for openGL, they're expensive too.

my work computer has a $1500 quadro in it and scores like a 7k on 3dmark06
