Hey All,

I was looking at video cards for my PC that I don't have (still a poor college student, I guy can dream though...) and was wondering is it worth spending the extra $50-100 to upgrade to the 512MB card? This came up when looking at these two:

256MB:

512MB:

Oh yeah here is the "superclocked" 512MB:

So, is it really worth it to get the higher memory or is it a marketing gimmick?

Thanks in advance.

there's only 10MHZ less on the GPU of the 256MB card. Plus, the 512MB video memory won't give you any real advantage, unless the game is really texture-hungry.

you can voltmod both cards and get them over 700MHZ easily

what do you mean you can "Voltmod" the Graphics card over 700mhz?

I also ran into this problem and wonder if it is worth it. So is it?

Apokalipse, why do you recommend voltmodding to people who don't know much about graphics cards? That's just plain risky...

In my opinion it's worth the extra money. Right now you don't need 512mb as 256mb will run fine, but firstly it's more future proof and secondly you can safely load the most high-res textures in your games. Besides, if you weren't a demanding gamer you wouldn't look at the 7950GT anyway.
