Default $2000 build GO!

So yea, my comp is running pretty smooth(the thread is buried somewhere around here) and my roommate decided he wanted me to build him one. Well, I've been busy and out of the loop for a lil while and wondering whats the hot stuff nowadays.

He doesn't need a monitor. Other than that it seems to be what I was thinking+floppy,os,opt drive, etc.

You could probably get away with getting a cheaper sound card if you want to upgrade something else.

Thats a nice setup. That 17" LCD monitor will be good. 17 inchers have a clearer picture and look better at 1024x768 than do 19 inchers, which is a must for gaming.
