Just purchased a mobo and an A64 3500+

2 Questions...

I bought some ceramique thermal paste and was reading the instructions. It says to remove the thermal pad from the heatsink before applying to the cpu. They say to only put it on the die,the small square in the middle of the cpu. I was wondering however is it safe to apply it to the whole cpu? Would it last longer/cool better if it was all over the cpu and heatsink?

Also I am interested in overclocking my cpu/mobo etc. Does anyone know a beginner friendly guide on overclocking? I read a few but found them really confusing.

Thanks

No apply only a tiny bit of thermal paste. If you put it all over the CPU then it'll just act as an insulator and won't help cooling at all. The paste is only designed to fill the microscopic gaps on the surfaces of the CPU and the heatsink.
