Default 1st Game PC Build-- Budget System = Help!

Hey all!

So I am attempting to build a budget rig that, with peripherals, hit around $1,000-$1,200. I have a blueprint of parts from a horribly easy-to-find source that maintains this budget theme...but I wanted some input from individuals whom are familiar with Gaming Pc Builds. (I would like to play Bioshock without wanting to kick the tower in frustration.) Any input would be spiffy! But anyways, here's what I have thus far:

Raidmax Smilodon Extreme case
Newegg.com - RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEBP 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case With 500W Power Supply - Computer Cases

ASUS P5Q Pro

VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 516MB
(Already have this one!)

WD Caviar 6401AALS Internal 640GB Hard Drive
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

Samsung SH-S223F 22x DVD+/-RW DL
mwave.com: SAMSUNG SH-S223F/BEBE black 22x double layer DVD+\-rw SATA drive w/ software (Bulk)

Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit

Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System 66I-01939 Home Premium SP1 64-bit English 1 Pack DSP OEI DVD-Best Computer Online Store Houston Buy Discount Prices Texas-Directron.com

As for peripherals, I have no clue. I really don't mind small monitors. A 22' would be great. I am trying to be super mindful of budget, but would like some decent hd resolution for a decent price.

So! That's it! Thanks in advance!

^ Your link is actually to Vista Ultimate (which is unnecessary) and a Hitachi hdd. Plus you could have just hit Edit on your first post and added it that way.

Hey guys! Thanks for the posts.

First of all, thanks for the i7 blueprint ibexpiotr (lol, the newegg gift was a warcraft book?), but i think I will opt for the dual or quad... seeing as this is my first build. (i7 is like...scary to me) = D

And thanks a lot for the list Brodom (Loving the case) ...I know it is a bit demanding of a question, but I was wondering why the Quad processor. I was fighting between taking an Intel dual core setup vs the quad. The E8400 has the same processing speed (3ghz) as the Q9650, with half the price. I was just wondering the "why". I'm kind of a newbie here. = P

Oh! Speaking of the case. My case comes with a 500w PSU, 2 x 80mm Fans, and 2 x 120mm Fans...for $10 more. So your case comparison (I love the looks and size) has 2 x 120mm fans, but no PSU. 4 fans vs. 2 fans...and having to buy the extra PSU. Is the 600w worth it?

Thanks again all!

For gaming, right now dual cores are faster, but a quad is more future proof. As more games come out, they will start utilizing all four cores. If you're set on a dual core, you should get the E8500. It's newer than the E8400 and better.

Never use a psu that comes with a case. They tend to be low quality and can be unreliable. Stick with the OCZ, for the price it's a good psu.

Okay. Awesome. Ya I didn't know the difference. So I'll go for the Quad core. This in mind, is there a specific motherboard I should us rather than the older mobo Asus P5Q pro? Brodom suggested the Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards.

And as for the PSU...I really like the case that Brodom suggested Newegg.com - NZXT Apollo Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases, however it only has 2 x 120mm fans. Is this a future cooling issue, or should it be sufficient? (I'm trying to keep future upgrading in mind...the parts may change, but the case most likely will not.)

Thanks! = D
