1GB stick of ram

Is 2x512mb of ram better than a 1GB stick of ram by a lot during games or when i multi task through programs.... can i notice the difference?

also if i get the 1GB stick of corsair value ram.... do you guys think that ram will still be around 8-12 months from now? because i would want to use dual channel with the two 1GB sticks so i might decide getting the 1GB stick right now and getting the other one later on, or should i get 2x512mb and 1GB in the future.. would the 512s be in dual channel still?

for now, 2x512 is better. you will notice a difference in preformance from dual channel. as much as a 10% speed difference, probably a little less. and yes, you will be able to buy another 2x512 in a year.

what would you guys do? get 1GB stick and when i need more get another one.. but risk the fact that the SAME MODEL MIGHT NOT be around when i do need it...meaning no dual channel or get 2x512mb and get another 1gb stick later leaving me with just 1 slot left?
